When God Says Wait

There is an aspect of our lives that is difficult to come to grips and hard to understand.  It is when we suffer.  We are unable to control the seasons of suffering.  Suffering comes at unexpected times and may be for known or unknown reasons.  Whether we hurt emotionally, physically, mentally, or spiritually we are told to talk to the One who loves us best.  Psalms 62:8 “...pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”  We will talk to those we trust.
Suffering for the believer has an important purpose.  Psalms 50:15 tells us that reason.  “I want you to trust me in your times of trouble, so I can rescue you, and you can give me glory.”  Because we live in an instant “you got it” culture we assume that God would act immediately if not sooner.  But God cautions us to respond in a different manner.  Psalms 37:7 “Rest in the Lord, wait patiently for him to act.”  Psalms 37:34 “Don’t be impatient for the Lord to act.  Keep traveling steadily along his pathway and in due season he will honor you with ever blessing.”  Psalms 27:14 “Don’t be impatient.  Wait for the Lord, and he will come and save!  Be brave, stouthearted and courageous.  Yes, wait and he will help you.”
God backs His actions by His amazing character.  For example his kindness and love are great.  Psalms 57:10 “Your kindness and love are as vast as the heavens.”  What about God’s mercy?  “All those who know your mercy Lord, will count on you for help.”  Psalms 9:10 “I am radiant with joy because of your mercy, for you have listened to my troubles and have seen the crisis in my soul.”  Psalms 31:7
Whether we are young or old, well fixed or in want, suffering comes to every person regardless of position or status.  This is the best time to remember God sees us every moment of our life and His thoughts turn to us so that “they would outnumber the grains of sand.”  Psalms 139:18 In our suffering no one understands like our God for He sees the whole picture, the sum of our life.  Let each one of us purpose in our hearts to wait for God to act, trusting His glory to be revealed in us.
