God Resistant

Oh, how we want to follow God, truly we do.  At times our hearts yearn for God.  We have even felt like the Psalmist so long ago.  As the deer pants for the water so my soul longs for thee.  Yet why do we live lives of such inconsistency?  Today in love with God tomorrow wandering away.  Could we have under estimated the pull of sin and the power of pride?  In truth we find that within our humanness we are incredibly God resistant.  We seek after the wrong things, we desire what hurts us, we think we know best.  But as we look into God’s Word we again see that our Savior cares for us, provides for us and leads us gently as a shepherd among his lambs.  That is why we can join in this refrain with confidence, “Oh, that we might know the Lord!  Let us press on to know him, and he will respond to us as surely as the coming of dawn or the rain of early spring.” Hosea 6:3 How do we press on today?  We must learn to follow well.  “Christ who suffered for you, is your example.  Follow in his steps...” 1 Peter 2:21  “I follow close behind you, protected by your strong right arm.” Psalms 63:8  “Follow God’s example in everything you do just as a much loved child imitates his father.” Ephesians 5:1 The power of God through the Word of God supplies the greatest resource known to man to break our pride, our God resistance.  “...I will take from you your hearts of stone and give you tender hearts of love for God,...” Ezekiel 11:19 And those with tender hearts follow best.  Let God work in your life His perfect plan.  You are His most valuable creation.  He will not make mistakes.  All will be revealed one day.  Let us remember these words from Elijah.  “How long are you going to waver between two opinions?  He asked the people.  If the Lord is God, follow Him!  But if Baal is God, then follow him.” 1 Kings 18:21 In this example the people were compelled to acknowledge the Lord as the real God.  We are being called to rise up and acknowledge Him as God alone who is able to take us from God resistance to becoming imitators and followers of God.
