Experiencing God
Can I have a relationship without communication? Impossible. At the very best that level of relationship would be superficial and based on assumptions and guesses. Yet so often I find myself wanting to experience God without really believing that I can communicate with him. However, the Bible tells how God uniquely spoke to countless people. People who knew that it was God speaking and could understand what He was saying to them. When God spoke that was an encounter with God. Today we too can experience the freedom and joy of hearing Gods voice. God speaks to us by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church. The fact that God has given us these means by which to hear His voice and experience friendship with Him proves that He is more interested in a love relationship with us than in what we can do for Him. And it is through that intimate love relationship with God that we are able to recognize His voice. “He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God” John 8:47. The moment that God speaks to you is the very moment He wants you to respond to him. How you respond to the Holy Spirit of God speaking to you through his word is crucial. There are at least two words in the Christian language that cannot go together: No, Lord. Disobedience can lead to a “famine of hearing the words of the Lord.” Amos 8:11-12 If you do not have clear instructions from God in a matter pray and wait. Do not try to bypass the love relationship. To hear from God you must believe that God is who he says he is. You have to believe God can do what he says he will do. You have to adjust you thinking in light of these beliefs. Then when you obey, God does his work through you. Then you will know God by experience. You will know he is who he says he is. When God accomplishes his ways through you others will come to know God. In conclusion Gods love for us is so great that he gave us the Bible, prayer, divine circumstance, and the church by which we can not only accomplish his will but also become the righteous people that he longs for us to be.
