Breaking Free
Perhaps one of the saddest stories ever told is of a believer who walks away from God. So often this decision is based on an age old theme, rebellion. Did you know that God is actively involved in breaking the back of our personal rebellion, which is man’s natural but destructive response to authority? We simply don’t want anyone to tell us what to do. Rebellion makes us defiant, resistant and disobedient. Defying the Creator who made us to worship Him is futile. "We are born subjects, and to obey God is perfect liberty. He that does this shall be free, safe, and happy." Seneca
It is easy to forget that God is sovereign. He is the absolute ruler. Listen to Psalms 2:1-4. "What fools the nations are to rage against the Lord! How strange that men should try to outwit God! For a summit conference of the nations has been called to plot against the Lord and his Messiah, Christ the King. ‘Come, let us break his chains,’ they say, ‘and free ourselves from all this slavery to God.’ But God in Heaven laughs! His is amused by all their puny plans." Friends, God is loving, patient, and perfectly wise. What sorrow awaits the man or woman who walks alone without God! "Who are those who sit in darkness in the shadow of death, crushed by misery and slavery? They rebelled against the Lord, scorning him who is the God above all gods." Ps 107:10 Fear God! As believers we must not turn away from the only One who is able to help us. "Then they cried to the Lord in their troubles, and he rescued them! He led them from darkness and the shadow of death and snapped their chains." Ps 107:13 I personally love and revere God for the many times he has delivered me.
Will you join me in raising your voice to exalt the Living and Triumphant God of scripture? "And now- all glory to him who alone is God, who saves us through Jesus Christ our Lord; yes, splendor and majesty, all power and authority are his from the beginning; his they are and his they evermore shall be. And he is able to keep you from slipping and falling away, and to bring you, sinless and perfect, into his glorious presence with mighty shouts of everlasting joy. Amen." Jude 24,25
