Blessed Desperateness
Christianity is a belief where weakness is essential. It is recognizing no person is strong enough to save themself. This is true also for the daily living of our lives. It really should not surprise us then when we find ourselves at a point of desperation. It would be easy to become discouraged or feel life is not going as it should. But desperation is not a negative quality but something that helps us stay on track with the Lord. First, let’s take a look at the extent of each person’s desperateness. Romans 3:12 tells us that, “Every one has turned away, all have gone wrong. No one anywhere has kept on doing what is right; not one.” Romans 3:11 says, “No one has every really followed God’s paths, or even truly wanted to.” It seems however, that no matter how long we live the Christian life we tend to believe that we should arrive at a place of caring for ourselves or some level of self-sufficiency. Nothing is farther from the truth. Rather all of life should involve a complete and helpless dependency upon the Lord in every area of life. Romans 1:17c states, “The man who finds life will find it through trusting God.” Romans 11:16 explains, “For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by his power, and everything is for his glory...” Romans 14:7 “We are not our own bosses to live or die as we ourselves might choose.” May every person discover the blessing of being weak enough to need Christ and strong enough to accept His offer of everlasting life. Weak enough to know we are nothing apart from Christ and strong enough to believe in God for every decision and every twist and turn of life. We can thank God for blessed desperateness that turns us back in dependency to the One who is mighty to save. Perhaps we will find it was our finest, our greatest help.
